Week 4 Review:The Global and the Local in Mobile Communication(All)

There is no doubt that mobile phone has changed our life alot.
The author has the case about mobile phone and peopel's life. In the article, he mentions about th division of public and private, and he says"Equally og interest is the discomfort users have with coupling the mobile photneto the body...". In other world. mobility of communication media tool, such as mobile phone, brought the change of the distance between the divices and our bodies, which made it closer. Compare with land phone and mobile photne, when pople call to land phone, they don't expect the exsact person would answer first. On the other hand, people have more confidence the person would grab it. That's why people say"Hi, my name is---. Can I talk with ---?" on land phoe, and say"Hi, how are you?" on mobile. In other words, the coupling the mobili phone and body means that we identify the mobile phone and users, and we expect people with mobile anytime anywhere. It is wired and still sounds like Si-Fi that "roboticarms", which movements are controled by mobile communication and machine attachment, like the author says. But it is true mobile phoen has changed our space, ideas and life style.Did we knwo or expect this change when mobile phoen came out?

week3 reading: The Phake Fone (group1)

I botugh my first mobile phone when I was 16years old. I became atticted to mobille phoen soon. Lookin at bill, my mother always saied "why don't you talk with your friend face to face in school? why are you talkin on mobile?". My excuse is "because they are not my neighbor". I lived faraway from my high school, and did not have enough time to chat with my friends after school. In other words, face to face comuunication was exsactlly same (mobile) telecommunication for me. I do't know moble phone talking have changd my communication way, or not.But I heard a story before; a mother calls up to her son, and says" I am leaving soon, but your dinner is ready". And the son hang up without saying even"OK". Probably, he does not want to talk with her, but wired. Is it communiaction,? No, I don't think so, it is fake! Then I am wondering what would happen if they don't have mobile phone. Probably, mother would go upstears, and speak to her son as face to face, which is real communication. If they beleive this is perfect communication, communication technology make them forget what is communication. In other words, they are only taking an advantage of technology, and became lazy about face to face talking, which is not always fun.

The author says telephoen(telecommunication) "policy-object": I understand telephoene is one of communicatin tools, whicih was invented by our requirements. Alao, the author says Policy-object can not chanfe the nature of human communication, but thinking about the case of the mother and son, it seems possible.

Review week3:The Technology Within

In this reading, the most interesting part was "it is oftern forgotten that digital life is still involves the written world". I was the one of them who forgot it.

Then what is the differnce between traditional  writting on paper and writiing in digital space? The best exsample of traditional rwitting is a book, and and any web reading material is the one of hypertext (writting in digital space). The biggest differnece of these two is I can have on my hands or not. But they have equally readers and require them to understand what each sentences mean. In other words, both of them have different styles, but they have the same function as a communication tool ( mediun of communication).

One day, one of my fried showed me his iPad. To be honest, I am not intersted in iPad, then I asked him what is so cool on iPad. He explained alot, but the interesting application was E-book. His virtual bookshelf on iPad was already filled with many books. I borrwed his iPad and red virtual book. It looks pretty real paper book, and when trunign a page, it makes sounds like as turnign a paper. Yes, it was cool, but I did not feel to really want to buy virtual books.

Why? Because it was bit uncomfortable for me. E-book i red looks a real book(just out looking on screen), and I had a same actions, such as reasding and turning paper. The information I received from E-book would be exsactly same when I read same book on paper, but still differnt.

Now I realize another differnce between raditional  writting on paper and writiing in digital space. Paper book simply requires reader to read, and digital writing, such as E-book, is more intaractive. There is no doubt digital life and writing have strong relationship, but it is also truet that their nature and the way of accessing to reader are different, i guess. Also e-book would never replace traditional books.

Week 2 reviews

Reading1 (all)

This author writing about cyberspace, what is it? How is it like? how will be like?
Also he describes these point by 5 threads; commonness of mind(Myth), technological experiences, architecture, and mathematics.

My experience of/in cyberspace is second life. In second life world, we play original character,
and communicate and live a life through own character. Physically people are not living, but
people have a social activities, like as real world.

The biggest different thing between real world and cyberspace is that cyberspace have been all created by human in real world. On the other hand, people have influenced by unexpected force, such as earthquake, tunami, falling stones and so on. I know this is too simple idea, but by thinking like that, it will be easy to understand this author's ideas. Cyberspace can not be replace with real world where we are living, but we can reflect our live on cyberspace, which means cyberspace would no be get matured and developed along with our real world, i think.

 Reading 2 ( group1)
The idea to approach media through "spiritual"telegraph is pretty interesting.
There is no doubt Media has been developed with and by technology. On the other hand,
spiritual thing is supernatural, and even I do not trust such a ghost, and something special powers.
Thus, media and spiritual are totally opposite things.

But i just remember what my mother told me. When she was a child, TV was seemed magical box for her. Also in time traveling movies, it is usual that person who came from past gets surprised
with TV, and as looking at TV screen, say "are they living in such a small box?"

Now we are excited with 3D, which makes audience to feel image more real. But we can not touch it. It seems like ghost, doesn't it?

I am not sure, but it might spiritual experience have been inspired technological creativity.
